The M-Tech M9800 is especially interesting, because this is the first notebook,
which utilizes the new graphic card generation from nVidia in SLI configuration.
The GeForce GTX 280M takes the top compared to other currently available video
cards in the run benchmarks. Combined with very powerful Extreme dual- or
quad-core processors from Intel, which are used in the M980NU, you can count for
first-class performance in virtually in all sorts of applications.
The M-Tech M9800 Gaming Workstation combines M-Tech engineering, Intel

capabilities.
M-Tech M9800 is a workstation notebook computer manufactured by M-Tech. The
machine is based on Intel Mobile processors and similar to other M-Tech models
in terms of outward appearance and expansion capabilities. The M-Tech M9800 is a
high-end notebook computer, similar to high end desktop workstations. It
combines superb mechanical design with high performance, high reliability and
expandability.
Featuring two NVIDIA GeForce Go GTX 280M GPUs running with NVIDIA SLI technology
or two NVIDIA Quadro FX3700M running in a multi-view configuration powered by
Intel Quad Core 2 Extreme quad-core processor technology, the M9800 also
features the largest storage capacity on the market today - a 1.5 Terabytes with
RAID 0/1 - making it the perfect laptop for users who demand large capacity
storage and reliability for true portable workstation-caliber experience.
At the core of the M9800, users can choose currently between three different
NVIDIA graphics cards: the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 280M or GTX 260M both with 1GB of
DDR3 video memory for high-performance PC gaming, or the NVIDIA Quadro FX 3700M
with 1GB of GDDR3 for those looking for the ultimate high-performance
workstation.
Users can additionally select a choice of a single graphics card or two in
NVIDIA SLI mode for the ultimate in gaming performance and image quality. With
two of the fastest NVIDIA GeForce notebook GPUs in NVIDIA SLI mode or a NVIDIA
Quadro GPU, this new graphics powerhouse is the ultimate mobile gaming and
workstation machine. M-TechM980NU Emperor uses Nvidia MXM-III Type B (Mobile PCI
Express Module) for easy upgradeability to new generation of graphics
technology. By using a consistent mechanical graphics interface in the form of
high-performance MXM-IIIb, M-Tech is able to introduce a variety of innovative
PCI Express graphics solutions as quickly as desktop PC graphics.
For the hardcore PC user (gamer or engineer alike), this means the M-Tech M9800
provides blistering fast response times that are sure to turn heads.
M-Tech M980NU support all of the latest ISV workstation applications in a wide
range of vertical segments, from Computer Aided Design (i.e AutoCad), Computer
Aided Manufacturing (ie. Pro/Engineer), Computer Aided Engineering (i.e.
SolidWorks) to Geographic Information Systems (i.e. ESRI ArcGIS) and Digital
Content Creation (i.e. Discreet 3DS MAX).
Driving the system is Intel Quad Core 2 Extreme QX9300 quad-core 1066MHz front
side bus processor with 12MB of L2 cache, which delivers exceptional high-def
multimedia, multi-tasking and multi-threaded performance. This high-performance
CPU allows users to simultaneously run multiple applications at the same time --
all with increased performance. Performing tasks such as burning CDs, reading
email messages, editing digital photos and listening to music all at the same
time with no slow downs means a richer overall experience for the user.
It is apparent that an 18.4 inch screen needs an appropriate big case. The
M980NU, which measures 17.52"x 11.2"x2.56" (438x438x64mm) 15.8" x 11.9" x 2.05"
and weights under 12lbs (5.35kg), also supplies tremendous storage (up to 1.5
Terabytes using three hard drives), allowing users to save more of their
favorite photos, music, games, and more, as well as headroom to install
additional office and entertainment applications. Customers may also choose
between RAID 0 and RAID 1 for the ultimate transfer rates and application load
times or redundancy.
Additional features include: integrated webcam; Bluetooth and Wireless N A/B/G/N
networking; internal TV HDTV Tuner and theatre audio system for a truly
immersive experience.
M-Tech M9800 supports variety of 32-bit and 64-bit operating systems from
Microsoft Vista Business or Ultimate, Microsoft System 7.0; Microsoft Server
2003 to Red Hat, Linux or Ubuntu. (Please note, M-Tech does not officially
support Linux operating Systems. Any use of Linux is at the customer discretion
and not recommended by M-Tech)
This 18.4 inch Mobile Workstation notebook sports most up-to-date hardware like
the Mobile Quad-Core and Quad Core Extreme processors from Intel , a new GTX
280M graphic cards in SLI configuration or three physical hard drives in RAID
0/1 configuration.
The design of this notebook very much resembles quality of other M-Tech
XXL-category products, e.g., the D9F i7 based Panther. Design is very clean and
elegant - glossy black with silver tones on the case.
However, upon powering on, the notebook lights are coming on thanks to numerous
built-in, color LEDs with configurable colors. With a touch of a Light Switch
colors can be changed from Blue, Green, and Red. White and Yellow on the hot
keys, openings for loudspeaker and fan at the front and at the back side. Also
at the lid, the M-Tech logo is highlighted by illumination and even the touchpad
comes with a colored shiny frame.
Except of the flashy lights the case looks rather simple and elegant. The
wedge-shape of the base unit, which lets the parts appear thin, contributes to
this impression. A similar concept was already successfully implemented in other
M-Tech models like 17-inch M5700 and15.4-inch M860TU series.
Because the front and also the back of the M980NU are occupied by the vent hole
and the loudspeakers, only the sides are available for interfaces. However,
because of a total height of 6 centimeters these should, nevertheless, provide
plenty of space.
In total 4 USB ports are available, one of them is a combined eSATA/USB
interface. In addition you'll find a DVI-port and an HDMI-out on the left side
of the case.
The left side houses a DVI port, 2x USB 2.0, HDMI, Card Reader, LAN-port, a
FireWire port, the optical drive, and an ExpressCard slot.
The opposite side, the right one, provides an antenna port if the model is
equipped with a TV-card, USB/eSATA, Kensington security and the audio ports. An
2nd 1Gigabit LAN is available via ExpressCard slot
The keyboard is a little bit off center in the huge base unit. This is, because
of a column with hot keys left of it and each key is separated from the others
and individually embedded in the case. Typing can be characterized by a rather
short key travel.
The touchpad looks very attractive, because it is absolutely flushed with the
case and even has the same high-gloss surface.
The hot keys above the keyboard are realized by touch-sensitive areas, which are
illuminated by LEDs. The volume control is activated by digital touch sensor.
M980NU is equipped with an 18.4-inch display with a resolution of 1920x1080
pixels, which is full-HD with maximum brightness of 220 cd/m and maximum
contrast of 595:1.
The M980NU clearly focuses on built-in hardware. You could nearly come to the
conclusion that the case was designed around the planned hardware equipment
afterwards. That is no surprise as the case should be able to house contemporary
and coming high-performance processors and also up to two graphic cards and
believe it or not up to three hard drives.
The M980NU supports variety of Intel Mobile processors up to Quad Core Extreme
QX9300 with a clock rate of 3.06 GHz.
If you want to replace or upgrade RAM, you have to remove the keyboard, because
the memory slots are there, so to say, at the back side of the main board.
However, this is easily done once some screws are removed.
With a total of three hard drive bays, which can be populated with 2.5" inch
hard drives, the M980NU leaves nothing to be desired. If you, e.g., select mass
storage devices with 500 GB capacity, you can easily exceed the magic limit of
one terabyte.
However, it is also possible to use the new solid state drives (SSD), which are
better than standard hard drives in terms of performance, or combine both
technologies.
With the M980NU M-Tech presents a completely new platform in the
high-performance desktop-replacement range. Being equipped with an 18.4 inch
display they follow the trend to displays with 16:9 aspect ratio. In total, the
case appears to be very huge and the production models will likely weigh about
5.5 kilograms. The design of the notebook conceals the actual size of this
laptop and balances simple, clean design with gaming feel and look. This is
especially done by LED illuminations.
The connectivity includes virtually all important ports, e.g., DVI, HDMI, and
USB/eSATA. Regarding communication modules we cannot say much now, however, you
can assume that the M980NU will be equipped with Gigabit LAN and wireless LAN
standard-n. The same is true for integrated Bluetooth.
